Everyone is invited to participate from June 09-11, 2022, in the charming seaside town of Chia on the island paradise of Sardegna, in Italy, where the stage will be set to explore one of the most important changes within the profession today: the gender shift in dentistry.
Since the times of Lucy Beaman Hobbs Taylor, the first woman in history to graduate from a recognized dental school 154 years ago, the number of women in dentistry has greatly increased. In Europe, one in every two professors in dental schools are women and in many countries around the world, women now make up the majority of the total number of dental students. Women have also increased their presence in leadership roles earning recognition in the top ranks of dental organizations and associations and for first time in the 717 year history of the Italian university La Sapienza in Rome, a woman dentist, Antonella Polimeni, has taken on the role of chancellor. Women are making enormous strides both inside and outside of dentistry, impacting the profession as never before.

Thursday, June 9th – two theoretical/hands-on workshops and three hands-on practical workshops will be held.
Theoretical/Hands-on Workshops
• Endodontics (research and clinical) – Kim Syngcuk (University of Pennsylvania), Elisabetta Cotti ( University of Cagliari) Jennifer Gibbs (head of the Department of Endodontics at Harvard University USA), Giovanni Olivi (Università Cattolica, Roma)
Denise Pontoriero and Filippo Cardinali ( SIE Speakers)
• Joint AIO-AIC (Italian Academy of Conservative Dentistry) Session – Stefano Patroni (Piacenza, Italy), Paolo Ferrari (Italy), Allegra Comba and Gabriella Romano (Italy)
Courses for Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants will be held in collaboration with Italian and European professional associations and organized in two easy to follow color coded paths.
Official Language and Certificates of Participation
The official language of the meeting will be English. For those lectures not held in English simultaneous translation will be provided. Certificates of Participation will be awarded to all those attending. The AIO is honored to have earned recognition as an international American Dental Association CERP Recognized Provider that provides both ADA members and the international dental community with a mechanism to select quality continuing dental education (CE). The AIO is proud to offer participants of the congress ADA CERP CE credit hours to those making request.
