▪️ Topic: Periodontal Exposure Surgery of Impacted Teeth for Orthodontic Purposes: Proposal of a Surgical Decision Tree
▪️ Time: 20:00 (LEB/KSA/Kuwait) 21:00 (Dubai/Abu Dhabi)
In a private practice, between January 2010 and December 2020, 1142 impacted teeth have been exposed for orthodontic reasons. The majority were the maxillary canines (73.38%), followed by maxillary central incisors (5.34%), then the mandibular canines (4.90%) and finally, the second mandibular premolars (4.55%).
The 838 maxillary canines were present in 785 patients of average age, at the time of the surgery, of 15 years and 3 months (7 years and 10 months to 45 years and one month). The distribution by sex was 60.7% (F) for 39.3% (H). 32.8% of maxillary canines were buccal and 67.2% were palatal. Concerning the still finished orthodontic treatment, only 9 canines had not moved, with a success rate of 98.93% teeth positioned in the dental arch. An interview conducted with some orthodontic referees specify that, in the presence of an impacted upper canine, the duration of orthodontic treatment was lengthened, on average by 6 months, but in some cases, by 12 months or more.
The aims of this lecture are to describe adapted surgeries to different impaction situations, to help the orthodontist to position the impacted tooth in the dental arch with all the components of the periodontium and with the best aesthetic integration and, finally, to propose a surgical decision tree.
